This course is designed to give participants the skills and knowledge needed to be lifeguards in pools and aquatic environments. This comprehensive course is through the American Red Cross with Lifeguard, First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications included. There are no makeup classes and participants must attend all scheduled classes. Prior to class registration, participants must register and pass the mandatory pre-test, which includes a 300-yard swim, a two-minute tread, and a timed brick retrieval from the deep end of the pool.

Blending Learning Format Course: The primary purpose of the American Red Cross Blended Lifeguarding course is to provide entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide professional-level care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services (EMS) personnel take over. The blended learning option combines online learning with in-person skill sessions conducted by a Red Cross-certified instructor.
Mandatory Prerequisites:
• Must be at least 15 years old by the last day of the course
• Successful completion of skills pre-test:
o 300-yard continuous swim (freestyle and/or breaststroke)
o Tread water with no hands for 2 minutes
o Swim approx. 20 yards, surface dive to depth of 7-12 feet, retrieve 10lb object, kick on back carrying the object approx. 20 yards, exit the pool without the ladder in under 1 minute and 40 seconds
