YMCA of Greater Monmouth County Receives Recognition from NJ Advance Media for Second Consecutive Year
SHREWSBURY, N.J. (August 16, 2023) – YMCA of Greater Monmouth County (the Y) has been awarded a Top Workplaces 2023 honor by NJ Advance Media, marking the leading nonprofit’s second year on the list of outstanding work environments. The Y is among 83 nonprofits and companies selected for the award, ranking ninth in the large company category of 500 or more employees.
“In the wake of The Great Resignation, we are incredibly proud to be recognized again for fostering a positive workplace culture where everyone is valued, and everyone is part of our cause to strengthen people and communities,” said Laurie Goganzer, president and chief executive officer of the Shrewsbury-based YMCA association. Goganzer said the association serves 36,000 people in communities throughout Monmouth County and areas of Middlesex and Ocean counties with a focus on programs and services that “nurture youth, promote healthy living, and foster social responsibility.”
The recognition from NJ Advance Media is based solely on employee feedback gathered through a survey issued by Energage, LLC., an employee engagement technology company. The confidential survey measures 15 culture drivers that are critical to the success of any organization including employee engagement, leadership effectiveness and connection to mission and values.
Energage Chief Executive Officer Eric Rubino said earning a Top Workplace award is a badge of honor for companies, especially because it comes authentically from employees. “That’s something to be proud of,” he said. “In today’s market, leaders must ensure they’re allowing employees to have a voice and be heard. That’s paramount. Top Workplaces do this, and it pays dividends.”
Maureen Simons, the Y’s chief human resources officer, attributes the strong employee satisfaction to improved benefits, including free Y membership to encourage healthy habits, reduced fees for child care and summer camp programs, plus a robust retirement plan, and a caring, flexible work environment.
“We also focus on fun, like celebrating national pizza day and sending ice cream trucks to our branch locations to show our employees how much we appreciate their efforts to help us deliver our mission to build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all,” Simons said.
For those interested in becoming a part of the Y team, Simons said hiring fairs are scheduled and signing bonuses of $250 to $1,000 are being offered for a variety of part-time and full-time positions.
The fairs will take place from 9-11 a.m. and 3-5 p.m. at the following Y locations:
- Monday, August 21, Freehold Family YMCA, 470 East Freehold Road, Freehold
- Tuesday, August 22, Old Bridge Family YMCA, 1 Mannino Dr., Old Bridge
- Wednesday, August 23, Red Bank Family YMCA, 166 Maple Ave., Red Bank
