The Y is here for ALL. But we felt that children in our community with intellectual and developmental disabilities were missing out on enriching summer camp experiences. So we put our thinking “capes” on and came to the rescue.

Camp Zehnder has partnered with the Family Resource Network, a leading provider of family support services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families in New Jersey, to host Camp NOVA at Camp Zehnder, a fully integrated and independent day camp experience.

In our first year, we were pleased to meet Eric, a safety-conscious camper with Autism, who was compelled to ensure rules were followed in the the parent pick up line. He stood proudly with his orange vest matching with our Counselors, and his hand-crafted STOP sign. He kept the maintenance vehicles honest with a few speeding tickets and made sure all golf carts drove safely on the paths provided.

At Camp NOVA, we cultivate lasting memories and friendships, and allow children of all abilities to achieve their goals and reach their full potential. Our goal is to grow, expand our staff and resources, and offer the opportunity for more campers with Autism and other developmental disabilities to attend Camp Zehnder all summer long. The Y is here to give every child the power to be their own Superhero.

Our Y has nurtured strong individuals and communities since 1874, transforming lives through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Learn more about the ways your support to our Annual Campaign opens our doors for all. > ymcanj.org/y-giving/annual-campaign
